Back in issue 90 of Magicseen I had the privilege of reviewing Steve Cook’s excellent book – Fake Genius. Die-Abolical V5 is one of the 20 brilliant effects taught within its pages. In the book, Steve points out that it can be quite a costly effect to make up should you buy all the components yourself. If you don’t want to go to all that trouble of sourcing the bits yourself then the guys at Alakazam have done it for you.
If you are not familiar with the basic effect – a randomly coloured dice is chosen from a choice of six, yet the performer’s prediction matches, every time! The effect is very easy to do and if performed correctly is a real fooler. There are no sleights or switches involved and everything is totally examinable. Language is also no barrier.
Two endings are offered within the online tutorial. There’s a serious perfect prediction outcome or a more humourous (but still as impressive) outcome so you have a choice how you’d like the effect to play out.
Die-Abolical has been a labour of love for Steve and has seen many variations over its 30 years. The original version was used many times on TV by the brilliant Wayne Dobson.
V5 now offers the spectator a choice from six coloured dice where the previous version only used three making it now even more baffling.
You are supplied with a total of 12 casino quality dice, a velvet drawstring bag and a custom made box all packaged within a beautifully designed box which has been gold foil stamped.
At £49.99 it’s not a cheap effect but if you like what you see on the video trailer then I recommend buying it. I wonder if there will be a V6 from Steve in the future?
