Welcome to Magicseen…

None of us could have anticipated how 2020 was going to turn out, but the universal disruption to both business and family lives caused by COVID-19 is way beyond anyone’s expectations. If you read the second instalment of the Magic of Austria 2.0 in this issue, which was written before the pandemic struck, you will see the extent to which the plans that the top magicians had for shows and tours must have been completely destroyed. Puts losing out on a few kid show bookings into perspective, I guess.

However, Magicseen is not about to wallow in doom and gloom, we are here to shine a bit of magical sunlight into your day! So let’s have a look at what we have in store for you. Our cover personality is Justin Willman, star of Magic For Humans and other TV shows, and he gives us an interesting insight into just what it takes to make it onto TV.

We also welcome insightful articles from Steve Cook, who talks about various aspects of performance and how we can use what we say, and indeed what we don’t say, to improve the impact of our magic, and Ian Brennan, who is starting a three part mini series on the subject of the business side of magic, the first instalment being to do with how to get bookings.

We are also delighted to present a major feature article by Thomas L. Swieciak on Siegfried and Roy which highlights and analyses the concluding magical sequence from their showstopping act used for many years at The Mirage in Las Vegas.

Reviews? Yes, we have them. Plenty of comments on the latest marketed magic, plus a report on Ben Hart’s live show Wonder which was caught in Bristol just before the lockdown caused his tour to be stopped.

All this plus….two excellent Masterclass trick contributions, In The Phonebox with actress Anna Torv, a fascinating article on how to develop your memory for magic and indeed general life purposes, letters and more.

This issue will only be produced in digital format, and we hope to be able to return to printed copies again for the July edition, but we will need to wait until near the time before a decision can be made. We hope that you will nevertheless enjoy our May offering and that it will help pass the time entertainingly!

New 6 month subscription available during the coronavirus crisis!

Magicseen would like to help all customers to still be able to enjoy our magazine during the current period of uncertainty, and to that end we are offering for the duration of the current crisis special mini subs of 6 months (3 issues). Normally the minimum period is a year, but this offer will mean that you can sign up for 3 pdf download issues for just £12.00 and physical copy subs* from just £16.50.

Click on the ‘Subscribe’ tab above and select the relevant 6 month sub that you require.

(*Please note – there will be no printed copy of issue 92 (May 2020) only a digital version and so all printed copy subscribers will receive their issue only as a digital copy. It is unfortunate but unavoidable in the current circumstances that we cannot print, but we felt it was better to produce the magazine as normal in a digital format than to cancel it altogether. Hopefully this will only apply to the May issue, but we will have to take a decision about the July issue nearer the time.)
